Linux is a nice operating system. In some ways I like it better than Windows. However there is a reason why
Windows is so widely used/installed by manufactures of computers. It is easy to use with massive support.
Tons of software available with massive support.
I will gladly pay for great progams with support.

Linux is a Unix based operating system with a GUI interface?
Try and do anything from a command prompt in Linux with out assistance? Its tough.
Linux is free as it should be. If you had to pay for it you would regret not having purchased Windows instead. Actually I did pay for it. But I switched back to Windows.

I switched full force to linux for about 8 months. After trying 3 different OS's (ubuntu, kubuntu, and bsd or whatever that one is called) and finally threw linux out the window and went back to Windows (and I'm definitely not a Windows fan either I might add!).

This article is somewhat true. I didn't get any viruses or crashes with linux, BUT all of them had so many bugs that the systems and the programs running on them were completely unstable. One day they worked, the next they didn't. And the "help" that is online is full of all kinds of "try this" help, but rarely did I ever find answers that actually worked.

I gave it my best shot, but I am yet to be impressed by linux. I really really try hard to use and support open source, but linux still needs a lot of work before I go telling everyone it's the bomb. I still use it, but as a secondary OS that I run a few neat programs with it. It works great as a 2nd OS I can switch back and forth from to programs that work great.

Mac is the only OS that actually works most of the time, but when there's a problem with a Mac, it's a pain in the butt to fix because Macs want to control everything.

I like to stick with Windows and run everything with portableapps.com apps, it's the only way to not bog down the system and reinstall it quickly if it crashes.

"There are many, many Linux Operating systems."

Not technically correct. The Linux environment is the OS kernel and select base utilities.

A distribution of Linux includes the OS kernel, its base utilities, and a set of additional software to run on top of the OS. This "additional software" can and often does include: a package manager or other method of installing/uninstalling software, common utilities, a graphical environment (X.org or X11), a desktop environment (full environment like KDE, Gnome, or XFCE or partial environment based on any number of window managers).

Just FYI.

One thing I'd add to the list above is that Linux does not cause your hard drive to fragment. That alone is a big plus, especially if you've had a frgamented hard drive with massive amounts of data on it under Windows.
